YALA BLOCK 5 GAME DRIVE

Explore the neighbouring cultural town of Kataragama. From the holy city that is home to Kiri Vehera Temple and Kataragama Davalaya Shrine, Kataragama is teeming with culture. In Kataragama during July/August, witness the 'Kataragama Perahera', an annual festival dedicated to dedicated to the Hindu God of war and wisdom God Skanda known to Sri Lankans as Kataragama Deviyo.

SITHULPAWWA MONASTERY

Sithulpawwa Monastery dates back to 2nd Century BC, where it was built under the patronage of King Kavan Tissa. The monastery is a complex with various religious sites, that consists of a cave with paintings. Once at the top of the rock, you can see a panoramic view of the sprawling Yala National Park is visible with the white stupa.

BIRD WATCHING BY THE RIVER

The Menik River flowing beside The Warden's House is a great place to spot endemic birds like Sri Lankan grey hornbill, Sri Lankan jungle fowl, Sri Lankan brown capped babbler. With a picnic set up by the river, settle underneath the canopy of arjun trees for a relaxing day of bird watching.
